A gluten free pal's HIDDEN GEM! Got a sandwich here (which I always appreciate, I find them to be more rare than bakeries these days), but also of course - multiple pastries. All were 5/5+ stars - sooo delicious. I also came around the holidays, and best believe I got their sugar cookies - sooo freaking good. I remember wishing I had purchased more. Can't wait to return!
The pastries are great but most notable are the donut holes. I like the sandwiches too but you have to eat them quickly. I brought one sandwich home and it cooled down so it was not enjoyable to me. Give this place a try if you are going gluten free. You're going to love it.
This review is purely for all the take-away goodies we've gotten - SO good! I'm gluten free, but even if I wasn't, this would be a winner. The proof?! The cider donuts were better than the ones from the apple orchard (so I'm told). The baby friendly smash cake we ordered was DELICIOUS, dairy free, and we felt good knowing what our little one was eating. The cinnamon roll was my least favorite. Did I mention the smash cake was bomb?? I wish they had more dairy free options and that the decoration on the cake was more ornate. But this is probably where I'm ordering special occasion goodies moving forward.
Excellent, excellent entirely gluten free bakery in DC! I tried quite a few things while I was there but my favorites were probably the apple cider donuts, pumpkin cake, and apple pie. They have a wide variety of bread, rolls, etc. and pastries/pies too. The staff was friendly and had good recommendations. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town!
We are fortunate to have Sweet Crimes not far from our home which is east of the river. One member of our household cannot eat gluten. It is amazing to know every single item is safe to eat. These are a few of our favorites: - chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting - mini quiche - donuts (personally, I do not even like donuts and love these cake-style donuts) - chocolate babka - for holidays we have ordered the star bread -- YUM! The staff are always very nice. The online ordering system can be a tad complicated and it is always good to check your order before you leave. They get very hectic around holidays. We are grateful to have this delicious and lovely business nearby. * If you are visiting from out of town and need a gluten free / celiac safe spot for breakfast or lunch, Sweet Crimes is ideal. We typically get the sweets but they also have nice sandwiches and coffee drinks. There is a patio out back. Near the Potomac Ave metro stop and on the M6, 32, and 36 bus lines.
